I have this same issue. Just like everyone else, I have python2.6 and python3.1 installed, and have run eselect python. emerge --info: Portage 2.1.6.13 (default/linux/amd64/10.0, gcc-4.4.2, glibc-2.11-r1, 2.6.32-gentoo x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.32-gentoo-x86_64-Intel-R-_Core-TM-2_Duo_CPU_T8300_@_2.40GHz-with-gentoo-1.12.13 Timestamp of tree: Mon, 21 Dec 2009 18:00:01 +0000 app-shells/bash: 4.0_p35 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.9-r1 dev-lang/python: 2.6.4, 3.1.1-r1 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.13 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.6-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63-r1 sys-devel/automake: 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.20 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.1 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.6b virtual/os-headers: 2.6.27-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=core2 -O3 -pipe -msse4.1" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/php/apache2-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php5/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/language.dat.d /etc/texmf/language.def.d /etc/texmf/updmap.d /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=core2 -O3 -pipe -msse4.1" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="distlocks fixpackages parallel-fetch protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.wetzlmayr.com/ http://gentoo.osuosl.org/ http://gentoo.arcticnetwork.ca/" LANG="en_US.UTF-8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/layman/java-overlay /usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="acl amd64 berkdb bzip2 cli cracklib crypt cups cxx dri fortran gdbm gpm gtk iconv ipv6 mmx modules mudflap multilib ncurses nls nptl nptlonly openmp pam pcre perl pppd python readline reflection session spl sse sse2 ssl sysfs tcpd unicode xorg zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" RUBY_TARGETS="ruby18" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="fbdev glint intel mach64 mga neomagic nv r128 radeon savage sis tdfx trident vesa via vmware voodoo" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS No need to keep posting emerge --info.
This happens because beautifulsoup-3.1.0.1-r1 has:
RESTRICT_PYTHON_ABIS="2.*"
The error message in python.eclass happens because of the line:
210 python2_version=""
I think it should probably check at this point whether the python2_version is
the python_version and if so die at that point rather than outputting a
confusing error message later:
if [[ "${python_version}" ==
"${python2_version}" ]]; then
die "Active version of Python 2
"${python2_version}" isn't supported by ${CATEGORY}/${PF}"
fi
Workaround is to switch to a python 3 version while emerging beautifulsoup.
(In reply to comment #5) > Workaround is to switch to a python 3 version while emerging beautifulsoup. Can't the beautifulsoup ebuild do that automatically, like the xorg-server ebuild auto-switches OpenGL "for new enough glxtokens.h"? Somebody please attach compressed log of: emerge -1dv =dev-python/beautifulsoup-3.1.0.1-r1* (In reply to comment #5) > This happens because beautifulsoup-3.1.0.1-r1 has: > > RESTRICT_PYTHON_ABIS="2.*" > > The error message in python.eclass happens because of the line: > 210 python2_version="" > > I think it should probably check at this point whether the python2_version is > the python_version and if so die at that point rather than outputting a > confusing error message later: > if [[ "${python_version}" == > "${python2_version}" ]]; then > die "Active version of Python 2 > "${python2_version}" isn't supported by ${CATEGORY}/${PF}" > fi ${python2_version} should be empty, when no version of Python 2 is supported by given package. The "Active version of Python 2 isn't supported by ${CATEGORY}/${PF}" message is printed only, when a version (e.g. only 2.7) of Python 2 is supported by given package, but active version of Python 2 is set to a different version (e.g. 2.6). Output of emerge -1dv =dev-python/beautifulsoup-3.1.0.1-r1*, both stdout and stderr

Right. Whereas in this case, no versions of Python 2 are supported by the package, but a version of Python 2 is set as the active version of Python (overall). I just think a better error message in this case would be a good idea, especially as it's likely to become more common in the future.

python.eclass.patch
Please test this patch for /usr/portage/eclass/python.eclass.
(In reply to comment #11) > Created an attachment (id=213789) [details] > python.eclass.patch > > Please test this patch for /usr/portage/eclass/python.eclass. > Emerged successfully, calibre still works :) Looks good. Same in here, ebuild does compile and inkscape works too (who depend on lxml, so beautifulsoup). (In reply to comment #11) > Created an attachment (id=213789) [details] > python.eclass.patch > > Please test this patch for /usr/portage/eclass/python.eclass. > Fixed. |
