I am installing gentoo, when running genkernel, everything is [ ok ] until I get to `*Running "make bzImage"' genkernel just ends. in the log i found (among other bugs, which are posted separately):  cgg-D_kernel_ -I/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r7/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototype -Wno-trigraphs -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common -fomit-frame-pointer -pipr -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -march=i386 -nostdinc -iwithprefix -include-DKBUILD-BASENAME=cdrom -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -c cdrom.c filemap.c: In function `generic_file_write': filemap.c:3347: internal error: Segmentation fault ---some text telling me to submit an eroor report--- make [2] ***[filemap.o] Error 1 make [2]: leaving dir `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r7/mm' make [1] ***[first_rule] Error 2 make [1]: leaving dir `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r7/mm' make: ***[_dir_mm] Error 2 make: *** waiting for unfinished jobs

errors such as yours usually point to hardware problems, such as bad RAM
or
overheating. Make sure your case is properly ventilated, and run memtest
on your
RAM (memtest is available on the most recent LiveCDs)
