emerge of package sci-mathematics/octave-3.0.3 works fine.
ruunning it reproduces shared library (libgfortran) error.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -av octave
2. octave


Actual Results:  
octave: error while loading shared libraries: libgfortran.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Expected Results:  
runs ok

Lots of info is missing, but most probably INVALID.
Run revdep-rebuild - it will pick up what you need to rebuild
to make things work with the new version of libgfortran.

Please run revdep-rebuild and reemerge octave. If this doesn't fix your problem please reopen bug and attach output of
emerge -vp sys-devel/gcc
