Documentation/Changes file in the gentoo-sources-2.6.31-r6 directory says that e2fsprogs version 1.41.4 is required. The latest e2fsprogs version available as stable for amd64 is sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.41.3-r1. I think this should not be the case, since the said gentoo-sources package is in the stable tree.

Although I haven't encountered any problems, the latest stable packages should meet the requirements of the stable kernel versions.
