Not really a bug. Have a look at your 70-persistent-cd.rules. Those are generated for your system specifically. You may edit them to fit your needs. After all, both /dev/dvd* and /dev/cdrom* are convenience-only rules. Please try what Rafał suggested. If that doesn't help reopen this bug and post the output of "emerge --info" and in case you are running an ~arch system attach your /etc/conf.d/udev file, too. The problem is that numerous multimedia applications (for example: GNOME Totem, GNOME-Mplayer etc) expect DVD at /dev/dvd so they won't work without further investigation and manual fix-up by the user. Moreover their error messages don't clearly indicate the source of the problem. So IMHO this change *is* a bug. Did you miss "generated for your system specifically" part ? For all we know, that symlink is already taken by a device that no longer exists. Once again, see your 70-persistent-cd.rules. Sorry! Absolutely my fault! I didn't realized that optical drives (DVDRAM and combo) were switched between my notebooks for a while :-( Forgive me bothering you. |
