I should also mention that this was using a 1.4 xp compiled live/boot cd. Also I got system hangs when attempting a completely fresh install. Again the working solution I found was to use the uni proc core. Having got to stage 3 and compiled my own smp kernel the system seems perfectly happy. I'm not really a dev sort of chap, so can't offer a fix I'm afraid. Please ask if you need anymore details etc Cheers, Guy 2.4.21 had some scsi/smp issues. this should be fixed with newer kernels, and new cds when they arrive I get the same problem with gentoo 1.4. I'm using 2.4.20-gentoo-r8. If there's a different kernel I should be using, how do I get it ? To get other kernels, just "emerge <something>-sources" : please see /usr/portage/sys-kernel for choices... Have you tried a newer livecd to see if you still have problems? let me know if this is still a problem Hi, I don't get any probs with home rolled 2.4 or 6 kernels, just the one off the offical 1.4 cd, which seemed odd as I had no issues with the rc's. I tried a 2.6 livecd recently, 20031113 but had completely different problems (usb, apci etc etc) I'll try a 2.4 live cd soon and let you know how I get on, I have a job now, so that's 10hrs of my gentoo time down the pan! HTH Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this. |
