Description Mehmet Giritli 2009-11-03 11:04:30 UTC
The new mesa 7.6 contains code to run with the radeonhd 3d acceleration infrastructure that is upcoming with the kernel 2.6.32 code. Therefore, this is important for many people using recent ATI video chipsets.

Reproducible: Always

All ready in the x11 overlay
Comment 2 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-11-03 13:08:38 UTC
7.6 is severely broken on Intel chips, we're waiting for 7.6.1 before moving it to portage.

Thanks

Isn't that why we implemented blockers?

Just make it block against xf86-video-intel, or is there any other problem? This is becoming a pain for radeon users, and you can expect a lot more noise now that linux 2.6.32 is out.

Blockers are meant for packages which install files that are incompatible. Using blockers for botched releases is IMHO a QA violation.

I know for a fact that 7.6 breaks all Intel chips out there, but it might break other chips as well. Given that Intel is supposed to be the best supported chip in Mesa, it doesn't bode very well for Mesa as a whole.

Now that 7.6.1 is getting RCs, maybe we'll start putting them in portage soon. Feel free to grab them from the x11 overlay to test them out.

Thanks
