I have a related bug (so I do not open a new one unless somebody tells me so): src/libXNVCtrlAttributes/NvCtrlAttributesVidMode.c:32:40: error: X11/extensions/xf86vmproto.h: No such file or directory I do not know which package should provide xf86vmproto.h, but I guess nvidia-settings does not depend on this package (which probably is the bug in my case) and so of course also not on the appropriate version of that package (which probably is the bug in case of Chris). If it plays a role: I am using ~ARCH nvidia but ARCH xorg with ARCH in {x86,amd64} (same problem occurs on both systems). xf86vmproto.h belongs to x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto. What version of that, if any, do you have installed? I've got 2.3 installed, which is ~amd64. (In reply to comment #2) > xf86vmproto.h belongs to x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto. I was conjecturing so, but the version I have (2.2.2) only has the header files xf86vmode.h xf86vmstr.h (even after reemerging no more files are installed). I am hesitating to upgrade to 2.3, since I expect that this will produce other trouble with my (throughout stable) xorg. What is the output of $ emerge -pv1 xf86vidmodeproto libXxf86vm root@flamethrower[0] ~ $ emerge -pv1 xf86vidmodeproto libXxf86vm These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild R ] x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto-2.3 83 kB [ebuild R ] x11-libs/libXxf86vm-1.1.0 USE="-debug" 243 kB Total: 2 packages (2 reinstalls), Size of downloads: 326 kB (In reply to comment #5) > root@flamethrower[0] ~ $ emerge -pv1 xf86vidmodeproto libXxf86vm > > These are the packages that would be merged, in order: > > Calculating dependencies... done! > [ebuild R ] x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto-2.3 83 kB > [ebuild R ] x11-libs/libXxf86vm-1.1.0 USE="-debug" 243 kB > > Total: 2 packages (2 reinstalls), Size of downloads: 326 kB > The "[ebuild R ]" in the output clearly shows, that you are using the latest packages. This bug is fixed in CVS. Sync again and nvidia-settings should build fine.
