INVALID for many reasons:
- support question does not belong in bugzilla
- just how long you've failed to update ?
- you need to unmerge man-pages and reemerge them (as was noted on the forum,
when that change was made)

The suggested corrective action worked. However, invalid implies that no corrective action is needed; whereas:

1. Following the Gentoo installation instructions, the wrong man-pages were installed. Why did this happen?
2. The instruction from the program was that the apps-man-pages-3 needs to be unmerged, which was incorrect.

Qustion: How does portage know what packages are installed?

Thanks for your help.
