Bug 290669 – <net-misc/wicd-1.6.2.2 does not function correctly

No IP is issued to any of the wireless networks. =net-misc/wicd-1.6.22 works perfectly fine though, and I believe it should be unmasked so people don't even _attempt_ to install the older versions, which will drive them away from the software.  I've marked this as 'normal' and not as 'minor' because the versions exercising this problem are about to the point of un-usability (I've done this on my laptop, so I cannot speak for wired, which is why I'm not going to say complete un-usability :P)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Emerge wicd-1.6.0.x >= x >= 1.6.2 
2. Try to get an IP using dhcpcd (have not tested with static)

Actual Results:  
No IP will be issued.  Attempting to run dhcpcd [device] from command line will not work.  I assume it's not authenticating correctly with the access point, despite seeing the HWADDR and the ESSID in iwconfig after wicd tries to configure it.

Expected Results:  
An IP to be issued, and DNS set.

I have personally had problems with this before, and it has kept me from using wicd.  I attempted to try again (in lieu of coming up with a few crazy scripts running in the background to auto-connect me to a few certain access points.. which would killed the battery). After having seen this problem too many times, I went to their IRC channel.  They explained there were bugs in those versions.

I unmasked 1.6.2.2, emerged, and everything is peachy.

Should've posted this earlier.  I noticed that other people didn't have problems with it, but I've heard many others who did.  I guess it wasn't the best thing for me to post.  Maybe something got updated since they unmasked 1.6.2, and that's what's causing the problems I (and others) have been having with this version-- maybe dbus?  [ I was getting some weird dbus errors...]

Given that the upstream NEWS file says:
1.6.2.2:
    Minor Changes:
    - Fix handling of ESSIDs with spaces and special characters

1.6.2.1:
    Minor Changes:
    - Hidden networks now work better
    - Properly handle double ESSID: entries in iwlist scan output

I'm intrigued to hear what your problem is that you so vaguely hinted at ;)

Stabilization will happen on bug 294626.
