I did not do this step;

I did use one of the testing iso's.
booted fine
keep in mind that NOT all bioses will support booting from a usb device. You need to verify that you can actually boot from a usb device, check with your motherboard manufacturer or pc vendor. Boot from usb devices definitely works... I just installed an ubuntu system from a usb drive The livecd@ alias is for tools related to the livecd, not the CD itself.
