Bug 287754 – x11-base/xorg-server-1.6.3.901-r2: freezes when running epiphany/evince/thunderbird etc.

My X server freezes after a few minutes (usually between 1-20 minutes) of running applications with some level of graphics, i.e. epiphany, evince, xfig, thunderbird. As of yet, I have not managed to see a correlation between any particular actions and the freeze. As long as I run text-based applications like xterm and emacs, the X server does never freeze.

Mouse pointer still moves but clicks are unresponsive, as is the keyboard (ctrl-alt-f1). Mplayer plays on and I can still ssh into the machine. However, killing -9 the X server and/or restarting gdm does not remove the frozen image from the screen. A reboot is all I can do.

Driver version is x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.9.0, although the problem appeared with 2.8.2, too. Kernel version is 2.6.31-gentoo-r1, but the problem appeared with previous versions, too.

I am attaching Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf, as well as results of intel_gpu_dump before and after a freeze.

Uh oh, you have an 865...

You should probably upgrade your kernel to the very latest git-sources kernel in ~arch. If that still doesn't fix it, please file a bug in FreeDesktop's bugzilla [1] and paste the url here so I can track the issue.
