x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto-2.3 renamed xf86vmode.h to xf86vm.h

media-libs/mesa-7.6 still uses the old name, and thus doesn't compile.

Either a blocker should be added or it should be patched.

xf86vidmodeproto-2.3 is under package.mask precisely because those protos and libs break a lot of packages.

Don't unmask 2.3 yet.
