It would be nice if Tarsnap had an ebuild. It compiles just fine without any modification, so it should be easy.

I'm the author of Tarsnap -- I just found this bug via Google.

I don't know much about Gentoo (I'm a FreeBSD developer) so I can't put together an ebuild; but if someone with Gentoo-fu wants to get involved I'd be happy to answer any questions about Tarsnap / add Gentoo-specific packaging bits into the Tarsnap source tree / anything else I can do to help.

gregkh has created an ebuild for Tarsnap: http://packages.gentoo.org/package/app-backup/tarsnap

this bug should have been closed when greg added it to the tree.
