I was trying to write Ruby FFI (Foreign Function Interface) bindings for dev-libs/tre, but after checking the compiled library with the nm command, I noticed it was missing all symbols.

FFI bindings require that the library have symbols, so that functions in the library can be dynamically called during runtime.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge tre
2. nm /usr/lib/libtre.so.4.2.4

Actual Results:  
nm: /usr/lib/libtre.so.4.2.4: no symbols

Expected Results:  
Symbols for tre_regcomp, tre_regncomp, tre_regwcomp, tre_regwncomp and tre_regfree.

nm by default looks for static symbols; use nm -D to find exported symbols.
