Description Luke-Jr 2009-09-20 18:27:34 UTC
There are currently about 24 package-specific "webkit" USE flags. I suggest making it a standard system-wide USE flag. Since there are at least 2 variants of WebKit available to Gentoo users (GTK and Qt; maybe Cocoa too?), some instances of USE=webkit should also IUSE=gtk or IUSE=qt4 if they wouldn't otherwise require those toolkits. In addition, the meta-ebuilds x11-libs/qt-4* should also IUSE=webkit to enable the qt-webkit dependency.
Comment 1 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-09-23 11:25:13 UTC
that's content for gentoo-devel mailing list.
Comment 2 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-11-06 11:54:26 UTC
Since there is not-a-bug target i close as invalid.

Please send mail to gentoo-dev mailing list if you want it discussed.
Comment 3 Luke-Jr 2009-11-06 14:45:30 UTC
Right, silly me for reporting obvious bugs and not "discussing" first whether they can be dismissed as a "feature" somehow. But I don't have time to "discuss" the obvious, so... guess I'll just have to re-learn not to report bugs. Oh well.
Comment 4 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-11-06 14:57:05 UTC
Personaly i would be most happy person if you just disappear or switch to gnome or whatever.

This time you used improper tool for reporting issue. Useflags ARE to be discussed on -dev mailing list. So if you are the one who worry about it you sent the mail to -dev.
Comment 5 Luke-Jr 2009-11-06 15:02:48 UTC
No thanks, this bug denial attitude, especially when it comes to configuration, is practically a Motto for GNOME...
Comment 6 Ben de Groot (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-11-06 19:35:59 UTC
I happen to agree with Luke that there should be standardization in the usage of the webkit useflag. As this bug was assigned to Qt herd, I'm reopening for tracking purposes.

I also underline that (as comments #1 and #2 already stated) this should be discussed on the gentoo-dev mailinglist, as that is the way we do things around here.

Also, please leave drama outside the door. It doesn't help at all to piss off devs or users (whichever applies).

Indeed, that would be a nice thing.

I totally agree
Comment 8 Davide Pesavento (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-03-12 19:02:21 UTC
What is this bug about exactly? Would you like to propose "webkit" as a new global USE flag?
Comment 9 Luke-Jr 2012-03-12 19:04:39 UTC
That was more or less the intent.
Comment 10 Davide Pesavento (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-03-12 19:05:46 UTC
Could you suggest a description for it then?
Comment 11 Luke-Jr 2012-03-12 20:06:20 UTC
"Enable support for the WebKit web browser/layout engine."
