Would Gentoo like port a new snapshot in the portage?

Thanks for the suggestion, but normally gentoo maintainers wait for an official release rather than a beta snapshot when it comes to something as important as a boot loader. 

Would you mind closing this bug as "later" and then reopen it if official 1.97 grub is released but isn't added yet to gentoo tree?

I see. Since the most recent snapshot is about 1 year ago and freetype is still not included in the live ebuild as dependency, I think a new snapshot might be demanded. Well, since Ubuntu is going to use GRUB2 as default in their next release, IMHO grub-1.97 is going to release very soon.

I would also like to see this; at this point the 1.96 release in the tree is so far out of date that many people are simply using the live CVS ebuild. The beta should certainly be masked, but it'd be much better for people to use it as opposed to the 1.96 release, or the -9999 version.
