Both of these packages install the libmilter interface from the sendmail package. In both cases, only a static library, libmilter.a, is created and installed. This prevents other packages, such as mail-mta/postfix, app-antivirus/clamav[milter], and other milters from dynamically linking to libmilter.

It does not look easy to convince the buildsystem of sendmail to produce a dynamic library.

I'm not sure if this should block bug 251464 or if this is a valid bug. Maybe the ABI changes too much between each version of sendmail. But, if proper library versioning is performed (upstream :-/) and >=portage-2.2 is used, upgrades to the libmilter library should not adversly affect installed packages that link to the dynamic version.
