Description Vadim Trochinsky 2003-09-06 14:19:05 UTC
Crypt::GPG is a Perl interface to the GPG (GnuPG) program, used to encrypt and
decrypt messages. It depends on the Expect Perl module.

Crypt::GPG perl module

Does this module provide for any dependancies for already existing or proprosed ebuilds? Perl modules are only added to dev-perl when they provide either functionality or they themselves provide applications.
Comment 3 Vadim Trochinsky 2003-09-08 05:19:15 UTC
Ah, didn't know. I'm building a chat server that uses it, so decided to submit the ebuild since I already
had one. I'm just submitting ebuilds for everything I want and doesn't have one.

I've checked Google and there are a few other things that require it too, though. There seem to be a
few scripts, coding examples and things like that (132 hits for uses Crypt::GPG)

Can somebody provide a link to the appropiate policy on this, BTW? It sounds a bit weird that Gentoo
would only support the applications it includes. What happens if I use the CPAN module to install a
module that's packaged later?

The update to the policy.xml is actually in progress. The dev-perl category was never intended as a replacement for installing modules by hand; instead, it was intended as a place to put those perl modules that other applications depended on for their functionality, or that offered enhancement to existing ebuilds. There is a rough copy of the perl-module.eclass in the works that checks whether you have a newer/same version of a perl module before installing it from ebuild, but that is still in progress.
