I have same issue. If started from command prompt it never displays and has to be killed -9. If I start it with strace gvim it runs normally. Strange. Same issue here with gvim 7.3. Doesn't run (displays grey window with minimized scrollbars) from 'konsole' or 'xterm'. Runs without any problem from 'krun'. Runs flawlessly under strace. (!) Sometimes runs if .viminfo is deleted. Same here with app-editors/gvim-7.3 and app-editors/gvim-7.3.50. Problem exists after deleting all (g)vim related files in $HOME or with a new clean $HOME. "gvim -f" or gvim under strace works flawlessly. Created attachment 254127 [details]

This behaviour started after emerging dev-lang/perl-5.12.2-r1. But reverting back to dev-lang/perl-5.8.8-r8 (running perl-cleaner afterward) did no solve this for me.
I have no idea what causes this.
Probably this is a dup for BUG 336837 (In reply to comment #6) > Probably this is a dup for BUG 336837 For me, this is a dup for BUG 336837 - gvim get stuck with x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-260.19.12 - gvim doesn't get stuck with x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-260.19.12 and __GL_SINGLE_THREADED=1 - gvim doesn't get stuck with x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-256.53 (I needed to add the patch mentioned in [1] to x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-256.53 to make it compile with sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.36-r1. [1] http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?s=fc5f52e3f7a3ac3241dff2cd8a763cf6&p=2335007&postcount=5) Haven't seen this at all for years so closing as obsolete. Feel free to reopen if you can reproduce with a current version in the tree. |
