Is the date on the system set incorrectly? Yes the date is set correctly. I removed the optimizations to gcc and restarted the glib emerge. Now in the morning the emerge is successful. Unfourtantly I don't have the output of this emerge, so I don't know if or for how long it looped. I started the emerge of pango, and that emerge loops in a similar way. Even if the emerge is successful it is really a waste of time looping like this. The emerge of pango looped until I got this error msg: make: *** creating jobs pipe: Too many open files. Stop. !!! ERROR: x11-libs/pango-1.2.3 failed. !!! Function Gnome2_src_compile, Line 39 Exitcode 2. !!! compile failure Hmm, any idea if auto{make, conf} was already installed by this time - or rephrase, does it do it with autoconf and automake updated to latest, and not from stage3 ? Problem is solved. I replaced the RAM and now everything works. just swithced the memmory modules between two boxes, and now both boxes runs perfectly! So this bug should be Closed - Invalid.
