Somehow even though the deb patch looks good after a bit of munging I can't get it to apply... looking through the source it should apply cleanly. Will try again later. To "test" the theory listed on the other page, I ssh'd into the malfunctioning myth box (ssh -Y) with a nvidia-based laptop, ran myth-setup and it works fine. This is consistent with the comments here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythtv/+bug/341898/comments/25. Still trying to play with that patch. I downgraded to xorg-server 1.5.3-r7. According to the xorg-server ChangeLog, 1.5.3-r1 is the last xorg-server in portage dated before the conflicting commit. r1 is out of portage so I tried r7. After rebuilding the x11-drivers, xorg starts fine, and mythtv-setup now works great! I get to the menu screens within a second or two, and I can navigate and see fonts perfectly! Not sure whether mythtv should have a <= dependency on xorg - I'll leave that up to the experts :) All the info you've provided thus far only point to bugs in the ATI DRI code when it comes to the software raster support. Which explains why when you rebuilt your xorg stack (potentially pulling in a newer revision with some patches there) it suddenly worked for you. Chalk this up to buggy drivers (amazing that the much vaulted open source drivers are usually buggier then the binary only drivers) and be happy it now works. |
