Description Przemyslaw Hoppe 2009-07-13 17:17:59 UTC
laptop-mode-tools [+apm] dependency is blocking sys-apps/hal [+laptop] dependency. Error message:
[blocks B     ] sys-power/powermgmt-base ("sys-power/powermgmt-base" is blocking sys-power/pm-utils-1.2.5)

 * Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be
 * installed at the same time on the same system.

  ('ebuild', '/', 'sys-power/powermgmt-base-1.22', 'merge') pulled in by
    >=sys-power/powermgmt-base-1.22 required by ('ebuild', '/', 'sys-apps/apmd-3.2.2_p5', 'merge')

    >=sys-power/pm-utils-1.1.1 required by ('installed', '/', 'net-misc/wicd-1.6.2', 'nomerge')

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install hal [+laptop]
2. Install laptop-mode-tools [+apm]
Actual Results:
Have to install laptop-mode-tools [-apm] or sys-apps/hal [-laptop] and net-misc/wicd [-pm-utils] what is really good idea on laptop.

Expected Results:
Dependencies of tools which are important on laptops shouldn't block each other

The reason why they conflict is because they fight with each other over the cpu frequency setting. You probably shouldn't need apm at all, tbh.

laptop-mode-tools[-apm] is enough.
