Have you checked out your LVM setup?

What should I be looking for? This happens on an ~amd64 desktop and an ~x86 server, with different LVM setups. I';ve also just tried it on my ~x86 Eee PC, same result. However, it does work on my MythTV backend, which runs amd64 with only a few packages at ~amd64, which makes me think it may be the ~ version of one of its dependent packages causing the problem.

Rolling back to sys-apps/sandbox-1.6-r2, which the working system uses, makes no difference.
