i had to add dev-perl/Apache-Reload to fix #224985, so i dropped keywords from www-apache/mod_perl-2.0.4-r1 until dev-perl/Apache-Reload-0.10 is keyworded. thanks.

From dev-perl/Apache-Reload:

Apache::Test version is 1.29, minimum version required is 1.3, tests will be skipped

Good to know before you get your hopes up about the test suite.

mod_perl should compile against the newest apache ebuild again, see bug 276707
