Description Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2009-07-05 16:16:33 UTC
media-fonts/gnu-gs-fonts-std-8.11 installs a font (n021004l.pfb) with incorrect metadata.

This causes okular:4.2 and other poppler-based applications to render all "Times" text in ~"Times-Bold".

For all details and a fix via fontconfig see

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18126

http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10593?dev=179

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Open PDF in kde-base/okular-4.2.4 that contains text in the font "Times".
Actual Results:
The text is errorneously displayed bold.

Expected Results:
Normal-weight text.

Or fix via downgrade to 6.0
Comment 2 Carl Michal 2009-08-27 23:13:56 UTC
This is true of the italic version too:
n021024l.pfb

These fonts claim to be 'medium' weight, but are bold. In the urw-fonts package the same fonts are installed, and the ones there are much more recent and do identify themselves as bold.

The fonts in gnu-gs-fonts-std should either be updated (they date from 2002, while the urw-fonts are more recent) or eliminated. They cause misrenderings.

gnu-gs-fonts-std and urw-fonts also overlap each other considerably.
