Please bump pidgin-latex to version 1.3 which was released on January 25th.
The new version has a dependency on dvipng.

patch to ebuild for version 1.2.1

Adding the dependency to the copied ebuild works for me here on ~amd64.

reworked ebuild, eapi2

Fixed the LDFLAGS issue. Also took the liberty to bump the ebuild to EAPI=2 for proper USE deps and remove the append-cflags as -fPIC is in the Makefile now.
