the kernel makes and compiles fine, no errors, it even boots, but when i get 
to a prompt, i get no keyboard action, no response at all; can't type anything.

i'm running a p4, 512mb RAM, 2.53ghz, with a ps/2 keyboard (dell 104 key)

did you add the serial input support like the documentation says to ?

you're right, i had to enable the input core device ps/2 option ... DOH

thanks for the help, i totally skipped it in the kernel...hehe
