Do you have a gcj executeable somewhere in your system? Please use the output of gcc-config -l to set your system compiler to the latest stable - 4.3.2-r3. It would seem that perhaps your current 4.1.2 compiler was not built with USE=gcj whereas your newest installed compiler 4.3.2-r3 is, but is not used.
