I'm not sure if this is the case in the official LICQ distribution, but in the
version currently in Portage for the 1.4 final release (I built it from source),
one of the WAV files for the event sounds is extremely distorted compared to the
others. The file is located here:

/usr/share/licq/sounds/icq/File.wav

I'm not certain if it is because the file is corrupt or if it's due to some
other problem, but it definitely doesn't sound right when played.

(Small correction, I built LICQ from source..for Gentoo I used a stage 3 install)

I've just experimented with this a little further recently, it seems now that the problem is not with LICQ, but the play command it uses by default. It seems that it has trouble playing that particular file, as other media players seem to play it perfectly well.

do you still have this problem? if,try a newer version of sox.
