It is common courtesy/practice that tarballs one downloads will extract into their own directory so they dont get lost amongst a backdrop of other directories. I have no idea what "web site tarballs" you're referring to....assuming it's the snapshot portage tree tarballs, those are written to work with emerge-webrsync. |
