For compatibility with python 2.6.x cherrypy should be upgraded to the latest version (3.1.2). And yes, there are other reasons too :)

Actual Results:  
Fails with python 2.6.x

Expected Results:  
Works :)

I've made the version bump in my own overlay and it installs and runs flawlessly on python 2.6.2 (~amd64)

Seconded.  Works fine, added it to my overlay.  Needed for newer python.
