please provide a release announcment in english. I will mark the bug as invalid as the official site has no newer version available. (In reply to comment #1) > please provide a release announcment in english. > I will mark the bug as invalid as the official site has no newer version > available. > Hm. :( Not exists english version. This project in the future get to official project http://www.midnight-commander.org/ . Great number developers get out from http://mc.redhat-club.org/ Russion-fork mc. Will assign to maintainer. PLease check the bump with them. ssuominen please check the bump. *** Bug 257350 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Two latest news at mc.redhat-club.org, one in Russian and one in English: 1. "Official" mc 4.6.2 released. The "official" release of Midnight commander 4.6.2 was out at February 1st, 2009. This is mostly bugfix release supposed to fix a handful of some longstanding issues. The most notable bugs has been fixed: * A body of backend that manages symlinks transferred via FISH has been rewritten (no more hangs when copying symlinks in "shell link" mode). * It's now possible to work with files and directories that contains special symbols or spaces at the beginning or at the end of their names. All changes are listed in the NEWS file comes with tarball (http://www.midnight commander.org/downloads/mc-4.6.2.tar.gz). Please note that this release doesn't include official UTF-8 support which has been scheduled for 4.7 branch. MC' developers are very aware of it's importance, so special GIT branch with UTF-8 patches named MC-4.6.2-utf8 has been created. Disto maintainers may run % git diff mc-4.6.2 mc-4.6.2-utf8 after receiving clone of the repository to get this patches. Project site - http://www.midnight-commander.org 2. mc-4.6.3 released On December 14th 2008 release of domestic Midnight Commander fork version 4.6.3 was out. Essential changes: - "Preserve Attributes" flag in copy and move dialogs may be optionally automatically disabled if destination file system doesn't support file attributes. - During copy/move from right panel to left, progress bar changes from right to left also. - Panel codepage (for single-byte code pages). - File recoding during edit and view. - Switch between panel display modes (vertical/horizontal splitting) via Alt+,(comma) hotkey. Thanks to Andrew Ugolnik. - Extension-based file highlighting. Thanks to X-Stranger. - "The shell is already running a command" problem fixed. - C/C++ syntax highlighting rules changed. Thanks to Alex Custov. - Debian patches: syntax and extension-based detection for apt/deb. - Debian patches: fixes in translations and bash syntax highlighting. - Lower menu with basic keyboard hotkeys fixed. Thanks to Denis Frolov (a.k.a. INF). - Config paths fix. Now they're installed at /etc/mc during make install. - Digital clock was added to the panel mode. - Warning on inability to change permissions was removed for ftp. Thanks to pavlinux. - Fixed free disk space display at the current directory mount point (in windows language: free disk space on the current disk). - Syntax highlighting for awk was added. - CSS (Cascading Style Sheets, not Counter Strike Source) highlighting file was significantly extended. - Patch for switching between mount points via Shift+F1/F2 was added. - Syntax highlighting for ebuild was added. - New element was added to F2 menu to allow to open files/directories via program assigned to this file type in the current DE. E.g., for *.txt in KDE, kwrite will open. It utilizes xdg-open. - After Ctrl+Space press, cursor doesn't move automatically to the next file. - New file types were added to mc.ext (Kaffeine and K3b playlists, FLAC, Qt .ui, etc). - Autoindent toggling in the editor via Alt+i hotkey. It is useful when pasting text from the buffer. - C++ syntax highlighting with Qt macros support from Debian added. For public/private/protected access qualifiers brightmagenta color is used, this enhances classes visual perception. - Port number for ssh connection may be specified. - On connection error (e.g. ssh) screen is redrawn, thus faulty connection artifacts are eliminated. Also artifacts for the first successful ssh connection are removed. - Translation file no.po is renamed to nb.po. ... and lot of other enhancements. Special thanks to Bircoph for English version of the site. Release of mc 4.6.3 is available here (http://people.redhat-club.org/inf/mc-slavaz/) Project's home page (http://mc.redhat-club.org/) If you have some patches you want to see in mc, send them to us. New project participants are welcome. If you have some ideas how to improve mc usability, feel free to visit our forum (http://mc.redhat-club.org/cms/) Best regards from the development team. I can't see any news about 4.6.4 there. app-misc/mc-4.6.4_pre336 - for testing... (In reply to comment #7) > app-misc/mc-4.6.4_pre336 - for testing... > You're proposing to everybody to use unstable testing version, right? (In reply to comment #8) > You're proposing to everybody to use unstable testing version, right? > Why not to attach live ebuild to this bug entry if you have interest in testing mc? I'm not a Gentoo maintainer, but I consider mc is not mplayer to update it's ebuild for yet another svn (git) snapshot regularly. mc, at least, get released occasionally. (In reply to comment #8) > (In reply to comment #7) > > app-misc/mc-4.6.4_pre336 - for testing... > > > > You're proposing to everybody to use unstable testing version, right? > app-misc/mc-4.6.4_pre336 maybe hard mask for testing. Furthermore, 4.6.4_pre336 > is fine working as compared to 9999... I've just explained my point. I'm definitely not right person to argue with. Suggest live ebuild and let maintainer decide what to do. And don't forget about overlays, of course. This bug is closing necessary. There is very trolling but nothing is constructive. Thanks. Hm. Maybe exists yet interested mans. If the new releases don't get in Portage, is there some overlay I can get them from? Portage is still on 4.6.2_pre1... (In reply to comment #14) > If the new releases don't get in Portage, is there some overlay I can get them > from? Portage is still on 4.6.2_pre1... > You can get 4.6.4_pre336 from rostov. I don't know if there is live ebuild somewhere. (In reply to comment #15) > (In reply to comment #14) > > If the new releases don't get in Portage, is there some overlay I can get them > > from? Portage is still on 4.6.2_pre1... > > > > You can get 4.6.4_pre336 from rostov. > I don't know if there is live ebuild somewhere. It seems rostov is not operational. At least here: svn: Can't connect to host 'os-rostov.ru': No route to host (In reply to comment #15) > You can get 4.6.4_pre336 from rostov. Found it. However, this is NOT Midnight Commander. It's a Russian fork. I'm only interested in the original. *** Bug 251005 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Changing summary, I will use same MC as Debian does most likely because they ship a nice tarball for patchset. I'll try to get this bumped to some sane version asap. Btw, the upstream 4.6.2 and UTF8 patches are here: http://www.midnight-commander.org/downloads (In reply to comment #20) > Btw, the upstream 4.6.2 and UTF8 patches are here: > > http://www.midnight-commander.org/downloads > That version is most broken of all of them, couldn't get it to compile with or without the UTF8 patch. Fixed many errors, and always hit one another. (In reply to comment #21) > That version is most broken of all of them, couldn't get it to compile with or > without the UTF8 patch. Fixed many errors, and always hit one another. Can't reproduce. I get a clean compile, with or without the UTF patch. Created attachment 193434 [details]
emerge --info
Here's my emerge --info, in case it helps.
Lot of 404's from the provided URLs and still no release that builds.. (In reply to comment #24) > Lot of 404's from the provided URLs and still no release that builds.. > 4.6.2 tarball stil available at http://www.midnight-commander.org/downloads On the "Browse source" tab you can see that work is still in progress in git. I guess we can forget about 4.6.3 and 4.6.4 and use 4.6.2 or try to build mc from git or maybe wait for 4.7. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 279862 *** |
