strace -f gnome-open test.txt
This is an strace up to the point where gnome-open seems to enter some kind of endless loop, constantly trying to execute again. At some point I just ctrl+c'd and cut out the first part until the whole thing starts to repeat itself
I think we'll need some profiling data (oprofile/sysprof) to see where dbus & co are spending their time eating the CPU. Could you provide us with that ? Please get back to us. After some further investigation, I realized that the endless loop was caused by the default application for the problematic filetypes being set to "gnome-open" itself, so I guess it wasn't gnome-open's fault but rather the fault of what caused the preferred application for the filetypes to be set to "gnome-open" (I didn't do this manually for sure...). I fixed it for me by using Properties -> Open With -> Reset on a file with one of the problematic types. I'll report it should it happen again after an update. |
