I just encountered this on an emerge -up world.

The ebuild in portage is incorrect, as fftw and netcdf are not absolute dependencies
but optional. I suggest reopening this bug until that is fixed.

Thanks for the comment. I added fftw and netcdf IUSE flags tograce-5.1.12-r1
and grace-5.1.13. btw, do you mind if I ask you toadd grace to sci herd?
I happen to maintain grace only becauseit has a dependency to t1lib and seldom
use it. Maybe you will lookafter the package better than I. If you think
sci herd is appropriate,please make metadata.xml accordingly (currently it
doesn't have one).
