What use flags are you attempting to build with? I've had a few other packages that were not compiling, so I did an emerge world in a loop overnight: emerge -e world ; while true; do emerge --resume --skipfirst; sleep 1; done and in the morning, all of my packages (including kvm) would compile properly.
