Mercurial 1.0 and 1.2.1 both fail with the issue as reported in bug 237028. This is almost an exact duplicate of that bug, since it remains outstanding.

I'm not going to add hard depend on >glibc-2.4 as users may have different libc implementation, also there's newer libc stable for all arches.

Your unwillingness to resolve this bug does not make it invalid. The fact is that as-is, mercurial does not build. At worst, please re-resolve as WONTFIX.

It's not that I'm unwilling to resolve this issue.

The problem is that mercurial uses features of inotify present in >glibc-2.4, but adding hard dependency on specific version of glibc is not an option, as there's more than one implementation of libc (especially important with the new eglibc thing).
