I don't think migration is pertinent in this document. When I see a title called "Migration Guide" I'm thinking about webserver-migration, user-database migration (LDAP or NIS, not /etc/passwd), DNS-migration, etc.

It's still a good document (nice PoV).

However, there are some items that need change. For instance the PCMCIA-stuff ("need pcmcia" and so on) is obsolete; Now you don't have to edit anything. Just make sure that the net.ethX resembling your PCMCIA nic isn't automatically started -- the pcmcia service will do that for you.

I'm probably going to add this document under "Installation Resources" with title "Developer PoV" or something similar.

Migrating webserver configs + DNS server is something that could well be done here as well (probably there should also be a chapter about SSL certificates and common locations?)

How to get this right is a bit more hazzle imo, mainly since I've never been in a position where I can even run such a server.

Database backup/restore should probably also be considered (another thing I haven't found myself setting up yet)

As for the pcmcia use / need -part, can that whole section be removed, or should it just be rephrased?
Comment 5 Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-19 06:50:22 UTC
The PCMCIA stuff should be refrased to reflect the "new" situation.

I'm marking this one as WONTFIX. It isn't a perfect idea to have multiple documents on the Gentoo installation in the documentation tree. It would be better to keep this as "seperate" documentation (i.e. keep it on your homepage, but not part of the official gentoo documentation).

Sorry this took so long and that I kept you busy with it.
