Freevo's MPD plugin simply assumes mpc exists locally. This isn't always the case and thus this plugin can cause a crash.

Obviously emerge -av1 mpc fixes this until the ebuild is fixed. Is there an mpd useflag that we can use for this feature? If so, the entire plugin should be (not) installed depending on the flag and thus pull in mpc.
