Does downgrading to sandbox-1.3.7 solve the problem for you?

If so could you please add bug 260765 as a blocker of this one?

Please test if this is a problem with sandbox an re-open if appropriate. You should test with version 1.3.9 of sandbox.

I tried to emerge plplot-5.9.2 with sandbox-1.3.7, -1.3.9 und -2.0. It now every times fails with:
