Even if I specify Option "TripleBuffer" "True" in xorg.conf and observe "(**) intel(0): Triple buffering enabled", nothing really happens - fps in Quake III Arena still is either 60 or 30.

I am running a stable amd64 system with ~amd64 packages listed in bug #251832.
x11-base/xorg-server is 1.5.3-r2. My video card is Intel GMA X3100.


Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Emerge specified versions
2. Add Option "TripleBuffer" "True" to xorg.conf
3. Enable vertical synchronization
4. Observe fps in 3D games
Actual Results:  
fps is 30 even if the scene can be rendered 59 times per second

Expected Results:  
fps is affected only by game complexity and the maximum value, which is the screen refresh rate

Tested with 2.6.2 and reported upstream: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20408

I think you can close the upstream bug report. Triple buffering is gone from git master because it never worked right apparently :

    It never worked with any upstream linux kernel, and is quite heavily
    deprecated. A new solution based around DRI2 will probably be
    forthcoming. Pageflipping itself is next.
