Please let us add blocker bugs. I would say this bug has nothing to do with X. Thanks Please, start with explaining what does "crashing computer" mean in this context: - crashing/exiting xserver - kernel panic - something else ? (In reply to comment #2) > Please, start with explaining what does "crashing computer" mean in this > context: > - crashing/exiting xserver > - kernel panic > - something else ? > Well, from the output (sadly, I have no idea how to paste it, since computer just hangs up), I could deduce, that X server crashed, even before letting me log in to shell, although for a few seconds, I was able to switch between TTY's (ALT+F1, F2 and so on), before computer hangs up and hard reset is required. Although I am not sure, the output might have said something about kernel panic. I'll try to look into logs, if I have any, maybe I'll be able to find the output I mentioned. Remi: sorry, I didn't mean to be rude or something - I just thought those might be connected. (In reply to comment #3) > Well, from the output (sadly, I have no idea how to paste it, since computer > just hangs up) So you get a nice static image on screen that you could easily copy manually? Please attach the relevant /var/log/Xorg.?.log. dmesg output from right before the crash could be useful. Switching to the open source driver and retrying could be useful (fglrx brings its very own hamper of trouble to the picnic - avoid it if possible). Then perhaps reopen this bug report. When you do, please explain why you mention sys-apps/hal USE=laptop in the Summary - does USE=-laptop work around the issue for you? > So you get a nice static image on screen that you could easily copy manually? No, I don't. The otput is several pages big (and it's text in the console, not an image), and I can see only a part of it. And as it hangs up my computer, I CANNOT just copy it. If you have any ideas how to do it, though, I'd be glad to give them a try. And no, turning on another computer and rewriting everything from the first one's screens is certainly not an option. > Please attach the relevant /var/log/Xorg.?.log. dmesg output from right before > the crash could be useful. Switching to the open source driver and retrying > could be useful (fglrx brings its very own hamper of trouble to the picnic - > avoid it if possible). Will try to reproduce it. And switching to open-source driver is not an option for me, sadly. > does USE=-laptop work around > the issue for you? As in bugs description. Yes. My system normally is USE="-laptop", and only when I did recompile it with +laptop all this nonsense happened. |
