Description Branan 2009-02-18 05:43:12 UTC
X crashes a few seconds to a couple of minutes into a KDE4.2 session, depending on what exactly I do. Just about anything can cause the crash. I have not been able to cause the crash from TWM, even while running a couple of different KDE apps (konqueror and konsole). The steps listed below are guaranteed to cause the crash, but they aren't the only way.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. right-click on desktop, choose "appearance settings"
2. left-click on the plasma theme drop-down

Actual Results:
crash

Expected Results:
get to change my plasma theme

I suspect this is a problem in my Xorg rather than in KDE, but it seems to only happen in my KDE session, so I'm filing it with KDE stuff.

I just tried updating to Xorg 7.4, as well as rolling back to the nvidia-177.82 driver. Neither of those fixed the crash.

There is no crash using the open-source nv driver.

I've experienced the same behavior with other drop-down selection boxes (specifically, the one in the weather applet). If I can provide any additional information that you might find useful, please let me know.

Does this still happen to you? I see you are using nvidia, could you try the latest available nvidia-drivers? Thanks :)
