Please read http://www.gentoo.org/news/en/gwn/20030804-newsletter.xml#doc_chap5_sect2 and be patient. That it's ~x86 does not mean we consider the software unstable. I was told by a gentoo dev, whose name I can't remember but it's in my mailbox somewhere, that this was the course of action. He said it wouldn't come out of a "testing" status unless someone mentioned it, and that a bug report would be the best method. I don't mind being patient at all, I just really hope not to be forgotten =) Actually, I'd consider the ebuild unstable until there was a script in init.d and basic configuration installed by default. Or a decision simply not to do so. Filing another bug on that momentarily... MPD does not require configuration (at all) and init.d should not be a reason for it to stay in testing IMO As a note - mpd-0.8.4 is currently in portage. Please let me know of your experiences with this build. Now that we are post-1.4-release, i think we should at least CONSIDER marking it stable. :) I've had 2 reports of people having success with 0.8.4 Well, I'm running off the current ebuild of 0.8.4, everything worked fine, and 0.8.4 is extremely stable right now, before each release goes I run an hour of tests (with a PERL script) to run on it (which actually started with this release) to make sure it's not going to fail on any command, and as usual it passed with flying colors. We have not had any complaints on the website, in IRC chat, nor in our bug manager so work progresses toward 0.9.0 currently. If you need I have 3 more guys in the IRC chat room I'm sure I could get to vouch for MPD's stability :) Cheers! sbh OK, Now I really look kinda like an butt saying it, but I have to eat my words. MPD is _super_ stable, but there is a typo in a file that causes problems with mpc when people don't have the song accessable but it's in their playlist. Honestly it really isn't _any_ kind of showstopper, but we are going to do another release for it just so it can be bullet-proof, before continuing with 0.9.0. Thanks for your continued support =) mpd-0.8.5 has been added to portage and all previous versions have been removed. As always, please test and report your experiences. :) ok, I hate to say it but one more bug was just found, we will release one last one for this series(hopefully!) We just killed a memory leak, so we will be releaseing (lucky!) number 0.8.6 on Sunday. Alright, so while i appreciate the enthusiasm, having these bugs lying around while we are still commiting bug fix releases on a regular basis is just plain silly. I'm going to close this and keep an eye on mpd, and it's associated client applications, and move them to stable when it seems appropriate. |
