Description Christoph Safferling 2009-01-21 19:32:43 UTC
Using nvidia-drivers 180.22 the neverwinter nights game won't start and complain about a segfault in /opt/nwn/nwn. Re-compiling the 177.82 drivers, everything works without a glitch again.

Did you confirm that you had the same version kernel module loaded?

Yes. I encountered the segfault after a fresh boot, so the nvidia module 180.22 has to be correct for the kernel. Shutting down the x server, rmmod the module, rebuilding the 177.82 module, modprobing that one and restarting the x server solved the problem.

emerge --info

I've attached the results of an emerge --info and an emerge -pv nvidia-drivers.

nwmain segfaults when run. Is this a driver issue, or an issue with the SDL binary in the nwn package? The log below shows NWMovies, but this issue occurs with or without NWMovies installed. Reverting to 177.82 works around the issue.

i'm too see this bug. this games enemy territory and torcs, and all segfault crash

Same issues with 180.27?
Comment 7 Christoph Safferling 2009-02-02 20:58:17 UTC

Please give nvidia-drivers-180.29.ebuild a try and report back.

Still the same -- segfaults.
Comment 10 Christoph Safferling 2009-02-26 19:01:34 UTC
Works in 180.35 now, at least for me and nwn.
Comment 11 Christoph Safferling 2009-04-18 16:28:45 UTC
No longer works for .37 and .44, though I switched to xserver 1.5.3, so that might also be an issue.
Comment 12 Mr. Bones. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-07-28 06:21:04 UTC
180.60 seems to work for me.

I'm going to close this out. Basically, yeah, some binary releases are better than others. Pick one that works for your needs.
