Printing stopped for me after upgrading from cups-1.1.19 to cups-1.1.19-r1. The 
reason behind this is that in cups-1.1.19-r1.ebuild installation of the file cupsomatic 
got commented out. In the comment it states, that this is now done by the foomatic 
scripts. However foomatic is currently not a dependency for cups-1.1.19-r1. 
 
Emerging foomatic solved the problem.

well as it is only required if you already had foomatic-2.0 installed, i added this kind of dep ;)
