tried to run:
# emerge --update --deep --ask world
it started, printed the first message, then died.  Now, all emerge invocations, no matter what I ask it to do fail with the same error:

Reproducible: Didn't try

Actual Results:  
 emerge --update --deep --ask world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Segmentation fault
bond ~ # 
bond ~ # emerge --update --deep --ask world
Segmentation fault



System is Sabayon 3.5.1 with updates. running x64 kernel

Your Python is hosed. Doesn't Sabayon provide binary packages of those? I'd recommend trying to re-install their python package or reporting a bug to them that the Python they're building is hosed.

Interestinly enough, a reboot fixed the problem (at least temporarily)
[An unrelated lament: since when UNIX became Windows-like, where you have to reboot to fix things... I remember the days.... ;]

If the problem appears again report it to bugs.sabayonlinux.org. If they find it's a bug with Gentoo, then reopen this bug again.
