Generally, somethings like this is due to a kernel or hardware problem. Do you recall anything in particular that changed just before you started experiencing this problem? why cant you do `emerge --info` ? if you can do `emerge gtk+`, you can do `emerge --info` in a different terminal, you should run like `watch -n 1 free` and in another `top -d 1` to monitor process state you also need to describe your system in general (In reply to comment #1) > Generally, somethings like this is due to a kernel or hardware problem.
