Description Michael Pyne 2003-07-16 12:44:20 UTC
When trying to use the command "emerge world -puDU" to do a deep update of my
system, packages keep appearing which are not in my world file, and don't seem
to be dependencies of any packages I have installed (as indicated by the fact
that they are all new). In this case, it happens with quite a few GNOME
packages, even though I have -gnome in my use flags. The same behavior does not
happen when I remove the -DU flag from the command.

Output of emerge -puDU world

Output of the deep update option "emerge -puDU world".	Notice that esound had
just been removed from my system: Now portage wants it back. ;) I even
included USE=-esd at the beginning of the command line.

Output of emerge -pu world

This is an output of the exact same command from attachment 1 [details], except that the
-DU option was removed. Notice that esound is no longer in the list, not to
mention about 40 GNOME packages.

Output of emerge -pu world

This is the results of the same command as Attachment 14558 [details], but without the
-DU option. Notice that esound is no longer included in the output

old and without emerge --info or at least -v for the attachments there's nothing that could be done.
