The full build log.
OK, I fixed it on my system by re-emerging e2fsprogs-libs. I'm not sure why this didn't work when I did it before. Here's an annotated excerpt from my .bash_history: emerge --sync emerge -puD system |tee 20081101.pudsystem [this is where I found the blockage and looked up the solution on bugzilla] emerge --fetchonly sys-libs/ss sys-libs/com_err sys-fs/e2fsprogs sys-libs/e2fspr ogs-libs vim /etc/portage/package.mask [added sys-libs/ss and sys-libs/com_err] emerge -av --oneshot e2fsprogs [maybe I said "no" to this one, I don't remember] emerge -C sys-libs/ss emerge -C sys-libs/com_err emerge --oneshot --nodeps e2fsprogs-libs emerge --oneshot --nodeps e2fsprogs dispatch-conf emerge -puD system |tee 20081101-2.pudsystem emerge -uD system dispatch-conf emerge -puD world |tee 20081101.pudworld [upgrading the world went OK, until...] revdep-rebuild --ignore --pretend [e2fsprogs was among the packages to rebuild, but not e2fsprogs-libs] revdep-rebuild [this is when I first saw the error in this bug; later I used emerge directly with the same result] what e2fsprogs do you have installed exactly ? also attach the file listings for each package.
